Turkey’s intelligence chief discusses Gaza truce with Hamas delegation
(MENAFN) Türkiye’s intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin, met on Saturday in Istanbul with a delegation from Hamas to discuss the ongoing Gaza ceasefire, according to official statements. The delegation was led by Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau and head of the group’s negotiation team.
During the discussions, the Hamas representatives affirmed their compliance with the ceasefire terms and shared information regarding alleged Israeli violations. The meeting also reviewed Türkiye’s active role in monitoring and ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire, including measures to prevent further breaches by Israel.
Both sides explored the conditions required to move forward with the second phase of the Gaza Peace Plan and examined solutions to existing challenges. The talks also included a briefing on Türkiye’s humanitarian assistance to Gaza and ongoing coordination with regional countries and international organizations to facilitate the delivery of additional aid, particularly tents.
The delegations reiterated their commitment to Palestinian national reconciliation and the long-term objective of establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Palestinians have accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement signed on October 10, which ended a two-year conflict that killed nearly 70,700 people—mostly women and children—and injured over 171,000 others since October 2023. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 395 Palestinians have been killed and 1,088 wounded in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire took effect.
