N. Korea issues call to oppose West-imposed unilateral coercive measures
(MENAFN) North Korea on Saturday appealed for stronger international resistance to what it described as unilateral pressure imposed by Western countries, framing the issue as essential to achieving a fairer, multipolar global system, according to statements.
"All countries committed to safeguarding world peace and security will have to stand firm against the West-imposed unilateral coercive measures if they are to build an equal and multipolar world," the Foreign Ministry in Pyongyang said in a statement.
The ministry said there is growing global opposition to such actions, noting that "voices are raised" worldwide calling for the removal of "unilateral coercive measures" that it claimed contradict the core principles of the UN Charter and international law.
It also referred to an informal plenary session held on Dec. 4 to mark the International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures, during which the United States and its "vassal forces" were criticized "for their acts of hostility undermining the sovereignty and rights to existence and development of sovereign states."
According to the statement, North Korea is part of a broader grouping that includes Russia, China and Iran. The group urged countries across the globe to "firmly reject and object to unlawful unilateral coercive measures running counter to the principles of sovereign equality, non-intervention, and respect for self-determination enshrined in the UN Charter," it said.
"Unilateral coercive measures are incompatible with peace and development of mankind, as they violate human dignity and rights and impede socioeconomic development and attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals by developing countries, they demanded the unconditional elimination of such measures," it added.
