'MGNREGA Bulldozed' - Sonia Gandhi Targets Modi Govt In Video Message, Says Congress Workers Ready To Fight 'Black Law'

(MENAFN- Live Mint) Slamming the BJP government and PM Narendra Modi, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, on Saturday claimed that the Central government has attacked crores of farmers, labourers and landless across the country. She alleged that the government bulldozed MGNREGA and went far beyond removing Mahatma Gandhi's name – it also changed scheme's structure without consultation.

On Thursday, the Union government passed the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha – which seeks to replace the MGNREGA, the scheme named after it – MGNREGS, and guarantee 125 days of rural wage employment every year.

In last 11 yrs, Modi govt ignored interests of rural poor to weaken MGNREGA, claimed Sonia Gandhi. Lakhs of Congress workers are ready to fight this 'black law' she said.

Unlike the MGNREG Scheme (MGNREGS), which was primarily funded by the Centre, the new Bill proposes joint funding between the Centre and the state, which will likely lead to a higher financial burden on states.
