DOJ Releases Trove of Records Related to Epstein

(MENAFN) The U.S. Department of Justice released a massive cache of records tied to deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein on Friday, meeting a congressionally mandated deadline that allowed minimal exemptions.

US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced earlier Friday that the disclosure encompasses "several hundred thousand" documents, with additional materials set for publication in upcoming weeks.

The release follows approximately one month after the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which then received unanimous Senate backing.

The legislation mandated the department publish all unclassified records, documents, communications and investigative materials in its possession related to the investigation and prosecution of Epstein by Dec. 19, with narrow exceptions for personally identifiable information of the victims and materials that could jeopardize an active federal investigation.

Epstein maintained close ties with numerous high-profile American political and business leaders. Following his arrest on sexual offense charges, he was found dead in his cell in August 2019, with authorities officially declaring his death a suicide.

U.S. President Donald Trump vowed during his 2024 presidential campaign that if elected, he would release documents related to the Epstein case.
