South Korean rail workers plan nationwide strike over bonuses
(MENAFN) Railway workers in South Korea announced Friday that they will begin a nationwide strike next week, continuing indefinitely, after talks with the government over performance-related bonuses broke down, according to reports.
The Unionized Railway Workers stated that the strike will start on Tuesday if the government does not revise its position, as stated by reports.
"The essence of the current situation is an issue of trust, not wages," the union said in a statement. "How can rail workers trust the government and work when even the finance ministry does not keep its promise?"
The union is demanding that performance bonuses be increased to 100% of base pay, up from the current 80% cap. In addition, it plans to hold rallies on Tuesday near the presidential office in Seoul.
