Strong earthquake hits Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region


(MENAFN) A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region early Friday, the German Research Center for Geosciences reported. The quake occurred at 05:39 GMT, with its epicenter 61 km (38 miles) from the northern city of Kunduz and a shallow depth of 10 km (6.2 mi).

No immediate reports of casualties or damage have emerged.

Afghanistan has been hit by several deadly earthquakes recently. Last month, a 6.3-magnitude quake in northern provinces, including Balkh, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan, and Kunduz, killed at least 27 people and injured 956. In August, a major earthquake in eastern Afghanistan devastated Kunar province, killing over 2,200 and injuring around 4,000.
