I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Connecticut, and former Andrew Carnegie Fellow (2020-2024). I am the author of the book How Autocrats Compete (Cambridge University Press 2019), which compares authoritarian longevity in key African cases. I am currently working on a project titled Discovering Welfare about the capacity of democratic politics in Africa to foster significant changes in the social safety net.
