Steven Spielberg Confirms Epic New Sci-Fi Film
The iconic filmmaker is returning with a new sci-fi epic, which marks his first movie since 2022's Fabelmans and will star the likes of Josh O'Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Eve Hewson, reports 'Female First UK'.
The logline for the new film reads, "If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to, 'Disclosure Day'”.
Spielberg's new Universal Pictures flick sees him reunite with screenwriter David Koepp. The duo previously worked together on Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The 78-year-old director is also making his return to UFO movies, having pioneered the genre in 1977 with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, while he later revisited it with 1982's E.T. The Extra Terrestrial and 2005's War of the Worlds.
As per 'Female First UK', recently, billboards in Los Angeles and New York appeared teasing that 'all will be disclosed', before the trailer was unveiled this week. Filming took place in and around New Jersey but plot points had been kept closely under wraps. In the trailer, Blunt appears as a meteorologist taken over by a mysterious and extraterrestrial force during an on-air weather report, while Josh plays someone trying to reveal the truth about alien life to the world.
While the rest of the teaser doesn't give too much away, creepy-looking animals and crop circles appear, alongside hinds of life elsewhere in the universe. The character of Josh said, "People have a right to know the truth, it belongs to seven billion people”.
A different character can also be heard adding, "Why would (God) make such a vast universe, but save it only for us?." Spielberg has been open to the possibility of extraterrestrial life.
He previously said, "I don't believe we're alone in the universe. I think it's mathematically impossible that we are the only intelligent species in the cosmos”.
'Disclosure Day' is due to hit cinemas on June 12, 2026.
