Rs 850 Crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park Proposed In Nashik, Says Piyush Goyal
Objectives and Benefits of MMLPs
Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) are large, integrated freight hubs that connect road, rail, air, and sea transport, providing storage, material handling, and distribution facilities while enabling value-added services such as sorting, grading, packaging, labeling, and assembling.
They offer significant benefits by combining multiple transport modes in a single location, reducing transport and handling costs through efficient modal shifts, enhancing delivery speed, improving inventory management, and enabling effective cargo tracking.
Additionally, MMLPs support local industries and create employment opportunities once operational.
The PM GatiShakti initiative aids MMLP planning by identifying suitable sites, minimising impact on natural resources, and visualising infrastructure such as roads, railways, and utilities using GIS-based data.
Project Status and Implementation
The Nashik MMLP is proposed to be developed by National Highway Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), a MoRTH-owned company, with an estimated investment of Rs 850 crore.
The project is currently at the appraisal stage and awaits approval. Once sanctioned, it will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase expected to be completed within three years post-approval.
The facility is designed to integrate road and rail transport, reduce urban congestion, and enhance logistics efficiency, further complementing the role of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in cargo handling.
The proposed site benefits from strong connectivity via major highways and the Mumbai-Nagpur railway line, approximately 220 km from JNPT.
