Deaths of Director Rob Reiner, Wife Under Investigation

(MENAFN) Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his spouse Michele were discovered deceased at their Brentwood, California residence. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has classified the case as an apparent homicide.

Authorities responding to a medical emergency call found the bodies of 78-year-old Reiner and his 68-year-old wife on Sunday inside their home. Media outlets reported that both showed injuries consistent with a knife assault.

LAPD chief investigator Alan Hamilton stated Sunday evening that detectives were not actively pursuing any suspect as the investigation continued. He noted that police would speak with family members, emphasizing that “no one has been detained” and that “no one is being questioned as a suspect.”

Speculation has arisen suggesting that the couple’s son, Nick, could be involved, according to a well-known American weekly covering celebrity news. Later reports indicated that he is being questioned by authorities, although police have not confirmed him as an official suspect.

In a 2016 discussion with the news outlet, 32-year-old Nick admitted to struggling with drug addiction from his early teens and experiencing periods of homelessness. These personal challenges influenced the semi-autobiographical movie Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

Rob Reiner’s Hollywood career spanned five decades, beginning with his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family (1971-1979). He later directed popular films such as This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally. Transitioning into drama, he directed Stand by Me (1986) and received an Oscar nomination for A Few Good Men (1993), starring Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise.
