China calls on UAE to strengthen collaboration in oil, gas
(MENAFN) China has called on the United Arab Emirates to strengthen collaboration across both traditional industries, such as oil and gas, and emerging sectors, highlighting the potential for deeper economic and strategic ties.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is visiting the UAE as part of a three-nation tour including Saudi Arabia and Jordan, made the remarks during a meeting with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, according to official statements.
Wang emphasized China’s support for the UAE in pursuing “a development path suited to its national conditions, safeguarding its national security and development, as well as playing a greater role in international and regional affairs.” He added that Beijing is committed to enhancing high-level exchanges, consolidating political trust, and elevating bilateral relations.
The two countries discussed advancing the Belt and Road Initiative by boosting collaboration in traditional sectors such as energy, investment, and infrastructure, while also expanding cooperation in emerging industries. Wang proposed the establishment of a production-capacity cooperation park to facilitate high-quality development. He further expressed readiness to coordinate on multilateral platforms to promote multilateralism and free trade.
“The UAE is a country in the Middle East with unique importance and influence. China's and the UAE's development strategies are compatible, the governance philosophies are similar, and the economies are highly complementary, making the two countries natural friends and partners,” Wang said.
In response, Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE’s adherence to the one-China principle, stating that the country “firmly supports China in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity and in achieving national reunification, and resolutely opposes external interference in China's internal affairs.”
He also expressed a willingness to maintain high-level exchanges, expand cooperation across trade, investment, energy, technology, and education, and deepen coordination with China on multilateral platforms to promote “regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.”
The officials additionally discussed broader Middle East developments, and China announced plans to host the second China-Arab States Summit next year.
