Turkish Trade Minister to hold high-level trade talks with US

(MENAFN) Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat is set to travel to Washington on Friday for a series of high-level discussions aimed at reaching the $100 billion bilateral trade target and strengthening economic ties between Türkiye and the United States, according to reports.

During the visit, Bolat will meet with Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and representatives from US Chamber of Commerce member companies. Concrete measures will be explored to achieve the trade volume goal set by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The talks will focus on reviewing the current roadmap in strategic sectors to enhance cooperation potential between the two countries. Areas under consideration include energy, investment, defense, and advanced technologies, while new avenues for collaboration will also be assessed.

Officials noted that discussions will include optimizing and further developing existing frameworks, such as the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between Türkiye and the US.

The Turkish Trade Ministry remains dedicated to fostering balanced and sustainable trade with the US while promoting mutual investments, in line with Erdogan’s economic strategy, as stated by sources.

Bolat’s visit is described as a key milestone, underscoring the robust economic ties between Türkiye and the United States — two allied nations — despite global trade challenges, and further solidifying prospects for future collaboration.
