Kahramaa Supports First 'Besolar' Customer
Doha, Qatar: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) yesterday organised a site visit to Al Taadhod Trading and Contracting Group building in Birkat Al Awamer area.
In a press release, Kahramaa said that the visit marks the group's status as the first customer to inaugurate the BeSolar service, launched by Kahramaa in the third quarter of 2024.
It added that this service aims to promote reliance on clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. It also enables feeding surplus electricity back into the national grid, contributing to the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2023.

Reflecting on these efforts, the Al Taadhod project demonstrates the practical benefits of this service. A total of 819 solar panels were installed across a building area of 4,900 square meters, with a production capacity of up to 369 kilowatts peak, covering approximately 70 percent of the building's electricity.
Kahramaa said that this achievement enabled customers to achieve significant operational cost savings and enhance environmental sustainability, including reduced dependence on the grid, the ability to export surplus electricity and benefit from the net metering system, and contributing to carbon emission reduction.
The corporation pointed out that the economic significance of the BeSolar service lies in its adoption of a net metering system, which calculates the difference between electricity consumed and exported to the grid, helping reduce monthly bills and improve efficiency.
This system allows customers to gradually recover part of their investments and encourages the expansion of renewable energy use, thus, supporting transition toward clean and sustainable sources, Kahramaa said.
From an environmental and strategic perspective, BeSolar service supports Qatar's efforts to transition to a low-carbon economy and increase the share of renewable energy in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 targets, producing 4 gigawatts of centralized solar power and 200 megawatts from distributed systems. Kahramaa added that BeSolar service also enhances energy efficiency, improves grid reliability, and promotes a culture of sustainability among customers.
This visit is part of Kahramaa's ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with various entities and encourage the adoption of sustainable solutions. The corporation will continue conducting site visits to explore the latest technologies and exchange expertise in renewable energy and its efficiency, contributing to improved operational and environmental performance nationwide.
