Srinagar- Police have arrested two youths from Srinagar for operating a drone in violation of no-fly zone restrictions during the Amarnath Yatra earlier this year, officials said on Monday.
The incident had triggered a security alert after a drone was spotted flying over a notified restricted zone along the pilgrimage route. Security forces brought down the drone using soft-kill methods to neutralise any potential threat to pilgrims, a police spokesman said.
As per Union Home Ministry guidelines, the entire Yatra route was declared a No Drone Zone to ensure foolproof security during the annual pilgrimage.
ADVERTISEMENTFollowing the incident, a case was registered at the Gund Police Station and investigation was initiated. A technical team conducted a forensic examination of the seized drone to extract operational data and trace its operators.
Based on the findings, police identified the accused as Owais Muneer Khan and Farooz Ahmad Nengroo, both residents of Srinagar. They have been arrested, produced before the court, and charge-sheeted in the case, the spokesman said.
