Trump says he will take part in Netflix-warner Bros merger decision

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he will play a role in assessing Netflix’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros., highlighting concerns over the combined company’s market dominance, according to reports.

Speaking to reporters at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Trump said: "That's the question. They have a very big market share. And when they have Warner Brothers, you know, that share goes up a lot." He added: "I don't know. That's going to be for some economists to tell, and I'll be involved in that decision. They have a very big market share."

Trump also noted that the merger “got to go through a process, and we'll see what happens," and commented: "Netflix is a great company...but it's a lot of market share, so we'll have to see what happens."

The deal, announced Friday, would see Netflix acquire Warner Bros. Discovery’s studio and streaming assets—including HBO and HBO Max—uniting the world’s largest streaming platform with a historic Hollywood studio. The cash-and-stock transaction is valued at $27.75 per WBD share, totaling approximately $72 billion, with an enterprise value near $82.7 billion, according to reports.

If finalized, this merger would stand as the largest media deal of the decade, potentially reshaping the entertainment industry for generations.
