Srinagar Grapples With Multiple Bear Sightings Rescue Teams Mobilised

Srinagar- Black bear sightings in Srinagar continue to make headlines as the animal was spotted near Nigeen Lake on Wednesday, following earlier appearances at NIT, Kashmir University and SKIMS.
The Wildlife Department has launched a full-scale operation to safely capture the bear. Teams from the Central Kashmir division, assisted by wildlife personnel brought in from other districts, are actively on the ground.
Drones are being deployed to track the bear's movements from above, while tranquiliser guns and short firearms stand ready for emergencies, reported news agency KNO.
ADVERTISEMENTMoreover, ambulances and wildlife teams have been stationed nearby to ensure swift response in case of human or animal injuries. Wildlife officials, including Central Kashmir Wildlife Warden personally visited Nigeen Lake to oversee operations and coordinate the multi-team effort.
Speaking during an onsite visit, Wildlife Warden, Central Kashmir division Parvez Ahmad Wani, said the public needs to move with caution and people need to step out only in groups for essential errands or prayers.“Avoid venturing into parks, lakesides, or secluded areas. Safety is our priority,” he said.
The official also warned against circulating or creating AI-generated bear videos, revealing that two FIRs have already been lodged.“Those indulging in such activities will face action,” he added.
He said, it has also been observed people are seen chasing bear and documenting him over videos which is dangerous and it should be avoided.
