Indigo Apologises For Flight Chaos, Pledges Full Refunds And Hotel Bookings
Indigo, one of India's leading budget carriers, has issued a public apology on the fourth day of hundreds of its flight cancellations or delays amid an ongoing operational crisis.
“We deeply apologise and understand how difficult the past few days have been for many of you,” the airline said in a statement on X on Friday.“While this will not be resolved overnight, we assure you that we are doing everything in our capacity to help you in the meantime and to restore operations at the earliest.”
Recommended For YouAcknowledging the disruption, Indigo said,“We are known for our reliability, but in these last few days we faced a serious operational crisis. For many customers, journeys were cancelle, and others faced long wait times at airports with limited information.”
The airline noted that Friday was expected to see the highest number of cancellations as teams work to“reboot all systems and schedules for progressive improvement starting tomorrow.” Indigo added that it is coordinating efforts with India's Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to reinstate regular operations.
To support affected passengers, Indigo announced several measures:
- Full refunds for all cancelled flights, processed automatically to the original mode of payment.
A complete waiver on cancellation and rescheduling fees for travel between December 5 and December 15, 2025. Thousands of hotel rooms and ground transport arranged across cities for stranded passengers.
Complimentary meals and snacks to be provided at airports. Lounge access for senior citizens, wherever possible.
The airline also urged passengers to check their flight status online and to avoid travelling to the airport if their flight has been cancelled.
“We want you to know that you will see incremental progress,” Indigo said.“We will do everything to earn back your trust and the love you've shown us over the past 19 years, and we can't lose it at any cost.”
“Our frontline staff and entire team remain dedicated to restoring normal operations and assisting every customer with care and respect. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and kindness during this difficult time. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress.”
Indigo also issued a statement of apology on Thursday on X, saying that "teams are working diligently and making all efforts with the support of MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI and airport operators to reduce the cascading impact of these delays and restore normalcy".
The Ministry of Civil Aviation says, "It is expected that all flight schedules will stabilise and begin returning to normal at midnight tonight, and full services and stability should return over the next couple of days. In the event of flight cancellation, IndiGo will ensure an automatic full refund for tickets. A 24x7 control room at the Ministry of Civil Aviation is constantly monitoring the situation on a real-time basis." ANI also shared.
