GAM Chief Meets Arab League Secretary General

Amman, Dec. 4 (Petra)-- Head of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Committee Yousef Shawarebeh met on Thursday with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in the presence of Jordan's Permanent Representative to the League, Ambassador Amjad Al-Adayleh.
The meeting, held at Aboul Gheit's office at the Arab League headquarters, took place on the sidelines of the 2025 Arab Government Excellence Award ceremony, during which Al-Shawarbeh was honored as Best Arab Mayor.
Aboul Gheit congratulated him on the achievement, praising Amman's strong urban organization and distinguished modern image.
Discussions during the meeting touched on joint Arab cooperation in municipal affairs and urban development. Aboul Gheit emphasized the importance of enhancing a culture of partnership and exchanging experiences among Arab cities, particularly in innovation, long-term urban planning, and sustainable development.
For his part, Al-Shawarbeh commended the Arab League's support for GAM in advancing urban planning, sustainable development, digital transformation, and smart-city initiatives. He highlighted Amman's progress in these fields and its ongoing efforts to keep pace with technological advancements and their impact on municipal services.
He also stressed the need to expand cooperation with sister cities to confront shared challenges and promote sustainable urban development.
Later, Al-Shawarbeh toured the "Seera wa Maseera" museum exhibition inside the Arab League headquarters, launched to mark 80 years of joint Arab action. The exhibition showcases documents, resolutions, and photographs reflecting the League's historic journey since its founding.
