Historic Appointment: Field Marshal Asim Munir Becomes Army Chief And Chief Of Defence Forces
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as both the Chief of Army Staff and the country's first Chief of Defence Forces, according to the Prime Minister Office.
The summary has been sent to the Presidency for constitutional approval. The appointment carries a five year term.
The PMO confirmed that Field Marshal Asim Munir will now hold a dual leadership position, making him the first officer to assume the newly created defence portfolio intended to enhance coordination among the armed services.

Officials familiar with the process said the creation of the Chief of Defence Forces role is designed to support integrated planning and improve joint force readiness. Government sources noted that the restructuring aims to respond to evolving regional and security pressures through stronger inter services alignment.
