(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation on Wednesday, during which they addressed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine along with several international matters.

The call, initiated by the French side, also covered the status of relations between the two countries and various regional developments, according to reports.

During the discussion, President Erdogan highlighted that strengthening cooperation between Türkiye and France remains a priority, noting that both nations will continue working toward this aim.

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the president said that Türkiye is making “maximum efforts” to bring the fighting to an end through a just and lasting peace. He explained that outreach to both parties is continuing in hopes of reactivating the Istanbul process, stressing that Türkiye is prepared to do whatever it can to help create an opening for peace as soon as possible.

Erdogan also underscored the importance of using diplomatic avenues effectively to secure a durable resolution, adding that Türkiye intends to expand its support for initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire and advancing the subsequent steps. He noted that refraining from moves that could undermine global stability would support broader peace efforts.
