Russia flies Tu-160 bomber over Arctic neutral waters
(MENAFN) Russia announced that one of its Tu-160 long-range strategic bombers carried out a routine mission over the Arctic Ocean, flying exclusively above international airspace.
According to the Defense Ministry’s statement, "Strategic bomber Tu-160 executed a scheduled flight in the airspace over neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean. Flight duration exceeded 11 hours."
Officials noted that crews from Russia’s Long-Range Aviation branch routinely undertake similar operations over neutral zones across multiple regions, including the Arctic, the North Atlantic, the Pacific, the Black Sea, and the Baltic Sea.
The ministry underscored that all such flights are conducted in full accordance with global airspace regulations. It reiterated that long-range aviation pilots regularly operate above neutral waters across these major maritime areas.
Russia’s Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft, both capable of carrying missiles, form part of the country’s long-range aviation forces and serve as the aerial component of its nuclear triad—alongside submarine-launched and land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles.
