Tribal elders and leaders of various political parties in Jamrud have strongly rejected allegations made against the Afridi tribe, one of the major Pashtun tribes comprising eight sub-tribes.

Speaking at a press conference at the Jamrud Press Club, the elders termed the remarks“baseless, provocative and deeply disrespectful.”

They said Pashtun tribes, also written as Pakhtun, Pakhtoon, Pashtoon or Pashteen, have always been patriotic and have rendered historic sacrifices for Pakistan's security and national stability. They added that the Afridi tribe, in particular, has stood at the frontline during difficult times and continues to do so.

The elders said that statements targeting Pashtun tribes amount to an insult to their collective identity and tribal honour, adding that such comments only create unrest, anxiety and unnecessary tension in society. They called for discouraging irresponsible remarks that damage social harmony.

They urged the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League (N) to play a constructive role in the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the merged tribal districts, which have suffered immense hardships due to terrorism. They stressed the need for industrial development, job creation and comprehensive uplift plans for the tribal region.

Reacting to PML-N leader Ikhtiar Wali's controversial statement, the elders demanded that he issue an unconditional apology. They warned that failure to do so would compel the tribes to pursue legal and constitutional action.

Concluding the press conference, the elders reiterated full support for the chief minister belonging to the tribal district and said the Pashtun tribes, including the Afridis, remain ready-as always-to make every sacrifice for the peace and stability of the province and their homeland.
