China plans to launch Shenzhou-22 spaceship on Tuesday
(MENAFN) China is preparing to launch the Shenzhou-22 spacecraft on Tuesday, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced on Monday, according to reports.
The spacecraft is scheduled to lift off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. The launch follows the return of Shenzhou-21, which brought three Chinese astronauts back last week—nine days behind schedule after the spacecraft was reportedly struck by space debris.
On November 5, the CMSA noted that the crew’s return had been delayed due to a likely impact on Shenzhou-20 from tiny orbital debris, which “does not meet the requirements for the astronauts' safe return” and required the crew to remain in orbit.
Shenzhou-21, China’s sixth crewed mission, included three astronauts, locally known as taikonauts—including the youngest-ever Chinese astronaut—alongside four mice. The mice returned to Earth last week with the Shenzhou-20 crew. Shenzhou-22 is expected to dock with China’s Tiangong space station shortly after its launch on November 25.
