Trump calls Xi phone talk ‘very good,’ accepts April Beijing visit

(MENAFN) According to reports, US President Donald Trump said on Monday that his phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping was “very good” and confirmed that he has accepted Xi’s invitation to visit Beijing in April.

In a statement shared via his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the leaders discussed “many topics including Ukraine/Russia, Fentanyl, Soybeans and other Farm Products,” adding that “we have done a good, and very important, deal for our Great Farmers — and it will only get better.” He noted that the call followed their “highly successful meeting in South Korea” last month, highlighting progress on maintaining current agreements.

Trump said: “To that end, President Xi invited me to visit Beijing in April, which I accepted, and I reciprocated where he will be my guest for a State Visit in the U.S. later in the year.” He emphasized that the US-China relationship remains “extremely strong” and that both sides agreed on the importance of frequent communication.

According to Chinese state media, Xi told Trump that Taiwan’s return to China is a key component of the post-war international order and emphasized that Beijing and Washington should jointly uphold the outcomes of World War II. Taiwan continues to be a flashpoint in US-China relations, with Beijing viewing the island as a breakaway province, while Taipei maintains its independence. The US supports Taiwan’s defense under the Taiwan Relations Act and related assurances, while Japan, a key US ally hosting more than 50,000 American troops, has raised concerns over potential Chinese aggression.

During the call, Xi also discussed the Russia-Ukraine war, expressing China’s support for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and achieve peace. The conversation came shortly after US and European representatives met in Geneva to discuss a US-proposed peace plan for the conflict, which has lasted over three and a half years.

Xi described the October 30 summit in Busan, South Korea, as “successful,” noting that both sides reached important mutual understandings that recalibrated “the course of the giant ship of China-US relations.” He encouraged expanding cooperation, minimizing disputes, and creating benefits for the peoples of both nations and the wider world.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Xi initiated the Monday call, an uncommon proactive move signaling Beijing’s high strategic priority on stabilizing relations with the US and ensuring Washington’s adherence to its One China policy regarding Taiwan.
