PFLP’s leader is at life threatening conditions from Israeli assault

(MENAFN) The Palestinian Prisoners Society warned Sunday that Ahmad Saadat, secretary-general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), faces serious risks to his life after being severely beaten in Israeli custody.

Abdullah al-Zaghari, head of the society, said Saadat, 72, was “severely beaten” while being transferred from Megiddo prison in northern Israel to Gilboa prison in the south, without specifying the exact date or further details of the incident.
“Saadat’s health condition is difficult, and the Israeli assaults pose a threat to his life,” Zaghari said. He added that the attack appears to be “part of the ongoing targeting of leaders of the prisoners’ movement under the instructions of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.”

Zaghari also warned that Israeli policies endanger all leaders of the prisoners’ movement, who continue to face brutal assaults despite the ceasefire in Gaza. He called for protections for detainees, emphasizing the “extremely harsh and oppressive conditions” they endure.

Saadat has been in Israeli prison since 2006, serving a 30-year sentence for his involvement in the 2001 assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi.

In related reports, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees Affairs highlighted harsh and “humiliating” conditions at Israel’s Ofer military prison, west of Ramallah. One detainee, Ahmed Hareesh from Beitunia, suffers from severe stomach pain suspected to be bacterial, but reportedly receives only painkillers while medical attention is delayed or absent, according to his lawyer.
