Professor Susan Gourvenec is Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies - Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering and Deputy Director of the Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute. Susan is a specialist of offshore geotechnical engineering and her research work provides industry-ready solutions for safe and efficient ocean engineering.

Prof. Gourvenec has been chair and co-editor of the proceedings of international conferences and is co-author of the book“Offshore Geotechnical Engineering”. Prof. Gourvenec works collaboratively with industry partners through research projects and in her role as a consultant to industry. Prof Gourvenec is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Convenor of the ISO committee responsible for developing industry standards for offshore geotechnical design and Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network Responding to Climate Change Global Challenge Group.
