Trump sends high-level Pentagon delegation to Ukraine
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has sent a senior Pentagon delegation to Ukraine in a renewed push to restart peace negotiations aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, according to media reports.
The team is led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and includes two four-star Army generals. Their mission is part of Washington’s latest effort to reopen stalled dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, an official familiar with the matter said.
Driscoll and the delegation were expected to meet Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, along with senior officials, military commanders, and defense-industry executives. Driscoll is also expected to meet Russian officials at a later stage, the report said.
A senior administration official stated that Driscoll’s trip is intended to evaluate “facts on the ground” and deliver a detailed briefing to the White House upon his return.
“The president has been clear that it is time to stop the killing and make a deal to end the war,” the official said.
The choice to send Driscoll — whose portfolio centers on training, readiness, and equipping US troops — reflects frustration with earlier diplomatic attempts and a belief that Moscow may be more receptive to envoys tied to the US military, according to the report.
The idea to dispatch Driscoll reportedly emerged from a conversation between Trump and Vice President JD Vance, who attended Yale Law School with Driscoll.
