Kremlin Addresses Zelensky’s Türkiye Visit
(MENAFN) Russian diplomats have not received invitations to Türkiye for what Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky described as an attempt to "revive peace talks," according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday.
Zelensky is scheduled to visit Türkiye on Wednesday as part of a foreign trip, just a week after one of his close associates, Timur Mindich, faced allegations of orchestrating a $100 million extortion scheme in Ukraine’s energy sector.
Speaking to reporters in Spain, Zelensky said his administration is “preparing to reinvigorate negotiations” with Russia, which were previously held in Istanbul, and that it has “developed solutions that we will propose to our partners.”
“We have received no information regarding that from Kiev,” Peskov stated on Tuesday, adding that US special envoy Steve Witkoff is anticipated to meet Zelensky in Türkiye, according to media coverage.
“Russia remains open for negotiations,” the Kremlin representative emphasized, underscoring that Moscow’s position is already clear to Washington, Ankara, and Kiev.
Observers suggest that Zelensky’s visits to multiple Western capitals this week are intended to consolidate international backing, especially amid worries that foreign aid could be reduced due to potential misuse.
Mindich, a former business associate of the Ukrainian president, left Ukraine shortly before anti-corruption investigators supported by the West filed charges against him and his partners.
Despite the controversy, Germany approved an additional €40 million in energy-sector assistance just days later.
