Israeli Forces Shell Southern Syria
(MENAFN) The Israeli military targeted the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria on Tuesday, marking the latest infringement on the nation’s sovereignty.
According to a state-run news agency, four artillery shells were launched into the eastern Tal Ahmar forest region in Quneitra’s southern outskirts.
No information has been released regarding potential casualties or property damage.
The assault occurred just hours after Israeli troops moved into rural sections of Quneitra and Daraa in southern Syria.
Neither the Israeli army nor Syrian officials have immediately commented on the incident.
Israeli operations in Quneitra have escalated recently, with residents reporting intrusions into farmland, destruction of hundreds of forested acres, detentions of local inhabitants, and the establishment of military checkpoints.
Government statistics indicate that since December 2024, the Israeli military has executed more than 1,000 airstrikes in Syria and conducted over 400 cross-border operations in the southern provinces.
Following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel broadened its control over the Syrian Golan Heights by taking over the demilitarized buffer zone, an action that breached the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria.
