Russia Unveils New Nuclear-Powered Submarine

(MENAFN) Russia deployed a newly constructed nuclear-powered submarine, the Khabarovsk, from the northern port of Severodvinsk, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed Saturday.

Officials conducted the vessel's launch ceremony at JSC Production Association Sevmash, one of Russia's premier shipbuilding facilities, the defense ministry stated in an official announcement.

The military submarine features advanced underwater weaponry and robotic technology systems designed to strengthen Russia's capacity to protect its strategic interests across global waters, the ministry's statement indicated.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov addressed participants during the event: "I would like to thank everyone involved in the submarine's creation for their conscientious and high-quality work. The vessel still has to undergo a series of sea trials. I wish the crew and the commissioning team success in conducting them," the ministry quoted him as saying.

The Khabarovsk must complete multiple phases of maritime testing before entering active service in Russia's naval fleet, defense officials noted.
