Türkiye’s defense minister says development of KAAN is on schedule

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s defense minister announced on Tuesday that the development of the country’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, KAAN, along with its domestically produced engine, is progressing according to schedule.

In response to a parliamentary inquiry, Yasar Guler stated that production and development work for the KAAN fighter, led by Turkish Aerospace Industries as the main contractor, is moving forward as planned. He also confirmed that efforts to produce a homegrown engine for the aircraft are on track with the established timeline.

Previously known as TF-X, the KAAN represents the forefront of Turkish aerospace engineering. The fifth-generation, multi-role combat aircraft is designed with high maneuverability, reduced radar visibility, AI-powered avionics, and advanced network-centric warfare capabilities.

The fighter completed its maiden flight in February 2024, followed by a second flight in May, and is projected to enter operational service by 2028.
