Search Efforts Continue in Vietnam After Landslides

(MENAFN) Search missions resumed Tuesday in Vietnam as authorities sought survivors following landslides that claimed at least seven lives and left more individuals unaccounted for, according to local media.

The Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention indicated that a total of 14 people were either confirmed dead or still missing after relentless rainfall and landslides struck the country beginning Sunday, as reported by a news agency.

Authorities stated that seven fatalities have been verified in Khanh Hoa province, while two others remain unlocated. Six of those deaths occurred when a passenger bus was engulfed by a landslide triggered by “heavy rain” Sunday night.

The vehicle, which was transporting 32 occupants — including “two drivers” and “one assistant” — was hit by a landslide while traversing a section of the Khanh Le Pass known for its susceptibility to such hazards.

Elsewhere, three residents were reported missing in Da Nang City, with one person unaccounted for in each of the provinces of Quang Trị and Thua Thien Hue, as search teams continue their efforts.

The intense weather has also inflicted broad damage on homes and farmland, leaving nearly 15,000 houses inundated and prompting the evacuation of roughly 5,900 people to secure areas.
