Saudi Arabia Bars High-Risk Patients From Hajj 2026 Under New Medical Safety Protocols
Saudi Arabia has introduced strict new medical conditions for Hajj 2026, barring individuals suffering from a range of chronic and infectious diseases from travelling for the pilgrimage.
According to Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs, these restrictions have been enforced under fresh guidelines issued by the Saudi Ministry of Health to ensure public safety during large gatherings.
The official notice states that patients requiring dialysis due to kidney failure, those with heart diseases who cannot tolerate even mild physical exertion, and individuals with chronic lung conditions who need oxygen support regularly or intermittently will not qualify for Hajj. Severe liver diseases, including liver failure and cirrhosis, are also part of the restricted-category list.

Pregnant women in the later stages of pregnancy or those experiencing complications fall under the same restriction.
The notice further makes it clear that people suffering from contagious diseases such as whooping cough, open pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), and viral hemorrhagic fevers pose a high health risk in mass gatherings and will therefore be completely barred from participating.
The list also includes cancer patients in the terminal stage and those currently undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or biological treatments.
Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs has directed doctors to issue fitness certificates only after thorough medical evaluations. Any negligence may result in legal consequences. The ministry warned that pilgrims providing incorrect or falsified medical information may be deported from Saudi Arabia at their own expense.
Medical officers at Hajj camps have been given full authority to stop any individual found suffering from restricted medical conditions. Saudi monitoring teams will also verify fitness certificates at all entry and exit points for Hajj.
