Moscow Sees Opportunity for US-Russia Agreement

(MENAFN) Russia and the United States have a chance to restore normal relations and steer clear of a fresh period of perilous confrontation, according to Moscow’s embassy in Washington, citing President Donald Trump’s opposition to the liberal globalist agenda.

In a statement released on Sunday, the embassy marked the 92nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and the United States.

It highlighted that President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s decision to formally recognize the USSR in 1933 was influenced by his acknowledgment of the shifting geopolitical landscape.

The embassy also emphasized that, despite decades of fluctuating relations, Moscow and Washington have “always found resolutions” to their disputes, as both nuclear powers “recognize their responsibility for the fate of the whole planet.”

In the current climate, the statement added, “a window of opportunity has opened for Russia and the United States… to normalize relations based on principles of equality, respect for national interests, and non-confrontational coexistence.”

The embassy underscored that this development comes “against the backdrop of the Trump administration’s rejection of the liberal globalist model of a ‘rules-based world order.’”

Relations between the US and Russia reached historic lows under former President Joe Biden amid the conflict in Ukraine but have exhibited early signs of recovery since Trump returned to the White House.
