Trump urges NBC to fire Seth Meyers over criticism
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has called on NBC to fire late-night host Seth Meyers after the comedian criticized him on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
In Thursday’s episode, Meyers called Trump “the most unpopular president of all time,” citing a poll showing his approval at just 33%, down 10% since March. He added that “a sizable portion” of the president’s Republican supporters are frustrated with Trump over his defense of H1-B visas in a Fox News interview and his failure to release the Epstein files.
Trump responded on Truth Social Sunday, claiming Meyers suffers from “an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)” and is “in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER.” He added: “Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”
The president has previously attacked late-night hosts who mocked him. In June, he celebrated CBS canceling Stephen Colbert’s show and targeted ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel and NBC’s Jimmy Fallon.
Kimmel’s show was suspended in September after FCC chief Brendan Carr warned ABC could lose its license over comments about Conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Democrats accused Trump of suppressing free speech, with Representative Yassamin Ansari saying, “Silencing critics through government power is the playbook of authoritarian regimes.”
ABC restored Kimmel’s show a week later, angering Trump, who vowed, “we are going to test ABC out on this.”
