Ala Mokhtar

Dr. Ala Mokhtar holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Waterloo. Her research interests lie in management accounting, specifically in how management controls motivate employees. Among other topics, she has studied employee overwork, employee evaluation, employees' identity with their colleagues, and personnel controls. She has also examined accounting professionals' experiences with their clients and how accountants cope with clients who act negatively towards them. She primarily uses experimental research methods and has also used survey methods. Ala has presented her academic work across Canada, the United States, and Europe and has served as a reviewer, discussant and moderator for various accounting journals and conferences. Before starting her academic career, Ala worked as a senior associate for PwC in the Middle East, specializing in Value Added Tax.
