Belgium Sees Launch of Right-Wing Party Inspired by Trump

(MENAFN) A fresh right-wing political party, taking its name from US President Donald Trump, has been established in Belgium, according to a local media outlet on Monday, which cited statements from founder and leader Salvatore Nicotra.

The party, officially named TRUMP—an acronym in French for “All United for the Union of Populist Movements”—is presented as the heir to the recently disbanded Chez Nous movement and Belgium’s former National Front (NF).

The NF was a francophone right-wing organization that promoted nationalist and anti-immigration policies before dissolving in 2012 due to internal conflicts and corruption controversies.

Nicotra, who previously chaired the NF, explained that the decision to name the party after Trump was intentional. “Donald Trump is the symbol of populism. He immediately shows what we stand for,” he told the media outlet.

Describing TRUMP as a “right-wing populist party with a social dimension,” Nicotra outlined that the party’s platform borrows around 40% of its policies from the left-wing Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB), known for advocating social fairness and wage increases, while another 40% comes from Vlaams Belang, Belgium’s main right-wing party that favors stricter immigration rules and Flemish independence.

Unlike Vlaams Belang, TRUMP opposes Flemish separatism and supports a unified Belgium.

Nicotra added that TRUMP intends to participate in the 2029 federal and European Parliament elections and may also run candidates in regional and municipal contests.

Other co-founders, all former NF members, include Emanuele Licari, a former Vlaams Belang figure who was expelled for openly praising fascism.
