Syria Signs Political Cooperation Declaration With U.S.-Led Coalition Against ISIS
Syria announced it has recently signed a political declaration of cooperation with the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, a group of more than 80 countries led by the United States.
Information Minister of Syria said on social media platform X on Monday, November 10, that the agreement is“purely political” and“does not include any military component so far.”
The move is seen as part of Damascus's broader effort to strengthen international engagement and rebuild its political standing after years of isolation caused by the civil war.
The Global Coalition was formed in 2014 to combat the Islamic State group following its territorial expansion in Iraq and Syria. Analysts stated that Syria's involvement-though limited-signals a shift toward pragmatic diplomacy amid changing regional dynamics.
Observers note that Damascus's participation could indicate growing international recognition of President Bashar al-Assad's government, which has been gradually reintegrating into regional forums such as the Arab League.
Analysts argue the move represents a tactical step by Syria to project stability and regain diplomatic leverage, particularly as global attention shifts away from the decade-long conflict.
