8 Killed, 20 Injured In Delhi Blast Near Historic Red Fort

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) At least eight people were killed and twenty injured when a car exploded near Delhi's historic Red Fort on Monday evening, police said.

Indian media reported that police have launched an investigation into the Monday night explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi, which left at least eight people dead and 20 injured. Authorities are treating the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, India's main anti-terrorism law.

The law allows investigators to pursue individuals and organizations suspected of engaging in terrorism or activities that threaten national sovereignty and integrity. Officials said the use of this law indicates the seriousness of the probe.

Home Minister Amit Shah told reporters that“all aspects” of the incident are being examined and that security agencies will soon reach a conclusion. He urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues.

Police said the explosion occurred when a slow-moving car stopped at a traffic signal and detonated just before 7 p.m. Several nearby vehicles were badly damaged by the blast's impact.

The Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a 17th-century Mughal monument blending Persian and Indian architectural styles. It remains one of India's top tourist attractions and a symbol of national heritage.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have not ruled out any motives. Security around major landmarks in Delhi has been tightened following the incident.

Analysts noted that the use of the anti-terror law underscores India's growing concerns over urban security and potential extremist threats ahead of the upcoming festival season.
