Australia's EV Purchases Soar to All-Time High in Q3
(MENAFN) Electric vehicle purchases in Australia surged to an all-time high during the third quarter of 2025, while traditional gasoline-powered vehicles recorded their weakest quarterly performance ever, new industry figures revealed.
Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales reached 29,298 units in the three months ending Sept. 30, surpassing the previous record established in the June quarter, according to Monday's quarterly light vehicle sales report from the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), the nation's leading industry organization.
BEVs captured a record 9.70 percent of new light vehicle sales in Q3, climbing from 6.59 percent during the corresponding 2024 period and 9.31 percent in Q2 2025.
Internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles represented 69.65 percent of new sales in Q3, marking their lowest quarterly market share ever documented, AAA data showed.
Hybrid vehicle sales also achieved a record peak of 49,929 units across the three-month span, with their 16.52 percent market share ranking as the second-highest on record.
The AAA noted that hybrid vehicles have consistently outsold BEVs for nine straight quarters.
