Zohran Mamdani Open To Talks With Trump Assures New Yorkers He Will Work Every Day To Honour Their Trust
The 34-year-old Indian-origin democratic socialist scripted history after a thumping victory, defeating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa in the closely watched contest that garnered global attention.
“Last night we made history. I am so proud to be standing here today as the mayor-elect of the greatest city in the world. Over two million New Yorkers cast their ballots. I will work every day to honour the trust that I now hold,” said Mamdani.
Open to speaking with Trump, says MamdaniAfter formally kicking off the battle with the US President in a victory speech, Mamdani said that while the White House hasn't reached out after his win, he is open to speaking with President Donald Trump.
“I look forward to having those conversations and to making clear that if there is ever anything to be spoken about that could benefit the people of the city, I am ready and willing to speak to anyone about it.”

“I am interested in having a conversation with Donald Trump - whether that's about 'delivering on his [Trump's] campaign promises around cost of living, or the issues New Yorkers have been sharing with me about the impacts of Trump's policies,” Mamdani added.

“I and my team will build a City Hall capable of delivering on the promises of this campaign,” the mayor-elect said.
He said that he is confident in delivering the policies that he ran on for the last year.
Mamdani added that he had not heard from Cuomo or the city's outgoing mayor, Eric Adams. He did speak with Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Elana Leopold will work with United Way of New York City President Grace Bonilla; former Deputy Mayor Melanie Hartzog, who was also a city budget official; former Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan; and former First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer.
