(MENAFN) Typhoon Kalmaegi departed Philippine territory in the early morning hours Thursday, leaving a devastating toll of 114 confirmed fatalities and at least 127 individuals unaccounted for, predominantly across the nation's central regions, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported.

OCD Deputy Administrator Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro confirmed to local news outlets that the storm claimed at least 114 lives across five central Philippine regions, emphasizing these figures represent "with actual body count."

"We are only awaiting the death certificates. But this is the number that we are getting," Alejandro stated.

Alejandro indicated that rescue teams continue searching for those still missing. The Cebu province accounts for 65 of the disappeared individuals, while the Negros Island region reports 62 missing persons.

The destructive storm marks the 20th typhoon to strike the Philippines during the current year, underscoring the archipelago nation's vulnerability to severe tropical weather systems.
