Over One Hundred Caspian Seals Discovered Dead on Kazakhstan Coast

(MENAFN) Authorities in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau Region have reported the grim discovery of 112 dead Caspian seals along the shoreline of the Caspian Sea, local media confirmed on Tuesday.

Media reported that 39 carcasses were located between the village of Asan and the beach of Fort-Shevchenko town, while an additional 73 were found stretching from Fort-Shevchenko’s beach to Bautino Cape.

A resident of Bautino town found six deceased seals washed ashore on Monday, noting that “two of which had fishing nets entangled around their necks.” The individual promptly alerted local authorities.

In response, officials collected seawater samples the same day from areas near Fort-Shevchenko and Bautino along the Tupkaragan District coastline.
