4 Afghan Weightlifters Depart For Islamic Solidarity Games In Riyadh
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee (ANOC) has announced that four national weightlifters have travelled to Saudi Arabia to participate in the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games.
In a joint statement, the Afghanistan Olympic Committee and the General Directorate of Sports and Physical Training said a six-member delegation from the Afghanistan Weightlifting Federation - comprising four athletes and two coaches - had departed for Riyadh to take part in the competition.
According to the statement, Shafiq Jan Sakhizada will compete in the 71kg category, Mujib Sultani in 79kg, Zubair Nazari in 88kg and Fazal Karim Turkman in the +110kg division.
The 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, featuring athletes from 57 countries, will be held in Riyadh from November 7 to 21, with competitions across 23 sporting disciplines.
Afghanistan will be represented by 83 participants, including athletes and officials, competing across 12 sports.
On Tuesday, Afghanistan's national futsal team defeated Tajikistan 9–5 in the same event.
