Trump Says Supreme Court Tariff Case Do-or-Die Moment for U.S. Economy
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump on Tuesday framed a pivotal Supreme Court case over the legality of his tariffs as “literally, life or death” for the nation, stressing what he sees as crucial economic and national security implications.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump argued that a ruling in his favor would bring “tremendous, but fair, financial and national security,” while a loss could leave the United States “virtually defenseless against other countries who have, for years, taken advantage of us.”
Trump pointed to recent gains in the U.S. stock market, saying it is “consistently hitting record highs,” and added that the country has “never been more respected than it is right now."
He credited much of this economic performance to the tariffs and trade deals enacted under his administration.
"A big part of this is the Economic Security created by Tariffs, and the Deals that we have negotiated because of them. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he said.
The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on Wednesday in a landmark case examining Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose wide-ranging tariffs—a legal challenge that could significantly redefine presidential authority over trade policy.
