Russian Spy Detained In Latvia
The arrest was carried out by Latvia's State Security Service (VDD) in cooperation with the country's military intelligence service (MIDD).
Based on information provided by MIDD, criminal proceedings were initiated against this individual on October 14 of this year under Part 1 of Article 85 of the Criminal Law - for collecting and transmitting classified or other information to a foreign intelligence service on its behalf.
"The investigation established that the Latvian citizen received and transferred information to the Russian military about private infrastructure in Latvia that could be used for aviation purposes, the presence of NATO allied forces in the country, as well as various current issues in the defense sector," the report states.

The VDD, together with MIDD, carried out procedural actions in the criminal case during the night of October 17-18 at two locations connected to the suspect in Ventspils. A detailed examination of data storage devices seized during the searches is now underway.
The suspect has been placed under arrest as a preventive measure. The VDD continues its investigation in cooperation with MIDD and will provide further information as the case develops.
