Sudanese Doctors Accuse RSF of Trapping Thousands in El-Fasher
(MENAFN) A Sudanese healthcare organization has accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sunday of holding thousands of civilians captive within El-Fasher, the main city of North Darfur, while preventing their evacuation.
In a formal declaration, the Sudan Doctors Network stated that the rebel faction “continues to detain thousands of civilians inside the city of El-Fasher, and prevent them from leaving after confiscating all means of transportation used to evacuate displaced people.”
According to the network, the militia has also forced back those attempting to flee, including individuals who were injured by gunfire and others suffering from malnutrition.
The group further characterized the conditions in El-Fasher as “extremely dire,” pointing to a critical shortage of medicines and a serious deficit of medical personnel — some of whom remain detained or abducted by the RSF.
The statement urged for “the immediate release of all civilians, the opening of safe corridors for their evacuation, and allowing humanitarian organizations to bury the bodies that remain scattered on the outskirts of the city.”
On October 26, the RSF reportedly took control of El-Fasher and committed “massacres” against local residents, according to local and international organizations, sparking fears that the offensive could deepen Sudan’s territorial fragmentation.
Later, on Wednesday, RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) acknowledged that “violations” had been carried out by his troops in El-Fasher, asserting that investigation committees had since been formed to address the issue.
