Cuomo Vows to Collaborate with Trump if Elected Mayor
(MENAFN) New York City mayoral contender Andrew Cuomo stated on Sunday that he intends to work constructively with U.S. President Donald Trump should he win the election, highlighting their previous partnership during his tenure as governor.
"I know President Trump. I was governor when he was president. In the first term, we worked together," Cuomo told Fox News.
The independent hopeful dismissed the notion that Democratic city officials must automatically clash with Republican presidents, declaring: "I'm going to try cooperation."
Cuomo expressed his conviction that Trump genuinely cares about New York and "would be open to a cooperative path that is doing good things in New York," adding that it would be "unfortunate" if the relationship became solely political.
Discussing possible collaboration with New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Cuomo underscored the importance of joint efforts, noting that the city serves as the driving force behind the state’s economy.
He also criticized Republican opponent Curtis Sliwa, arguing that he lacks the competence and experience required for leadership, referencing Trump’s own remark that Sliwa is not ready for "prime time" because of limited management and governmental background.
Recent polling data indicates that Democrat Zohran Mamdani currently holds a lead of between 41% and 47%, while Cuomo follows with 31–34% and Sliwa trails at 14–24%, according to surveys conducted from late October to early November.
More than 580,000 New Yorkers have already participated in early voting before Tuesday’s election, according to figures released by the New York City Board of Elections.
