Rajasthan Bus Accident: At Least 15 Dead In Tragic Bus-Truck Collision In Phalodi Two Seriously Injured


(MENAFN- Live Mint) At least 15 people died, while two others were seriously injured as a bus collided with a truck in Rajasthan's Phalodi on Sunday, police said.

The injured persons have been rushed to the hospital and are undergoing treatment, they said.

“Fifteen people have lost their lives in a road accident in Phalodi district. Two are injured. The injured person are undergoing treatment. The affected family have our full support,” Jodhpur Police Commissioner Om Prakash Paswan was quoted as PTI by saying.

The injured were first taken to a nearby hospital in Osian for first aid, and were later referred to Jodhpur, Paswan added.

The incident occurred near Matoda village on the Bharat Mala Highway, police said.

Social media images showed that the tourist bus in a wreck as it lay on the roads, with doors and windows smashed due to the impact of the collision.

According to ANI, the bus full of people was returning from Bikaner. It crashed into a stationary truck parked in Phalodi district's Bapini village.

Vikas Rajpurohit, Superintendent at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital near Phalodi said that the casualties could be more than 15, and the hospital has been asked to stay alert.

“I have received a call from the Police Commissioner to stay alert and ready for the treatment of patients who have met with an accident. There are around 15-16 casualties. We are ready for it,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

Rajasthan bus accident: Who are the victims?

According to police, the tempo traveller was carrying a group of pilgrims from Jodhpur. The victims were residents of the Sursagar area in Jodhpur, the police said.

They were returning from the Kolayat temple in Bikaner after offering prayers at the Kapil Muni Ashram.

All the bodies have been kept in the mortuary of the Osian government hospital.

A member of the family of one of the victims said that there were 18 passengers in the bus, including four or five children.

“A total of 18 people were in the bus including 4-5 children... They had all gone to Kolayat... My family members were there in the bus, including my brother and sons' wives,” the person was quoted as saying by ANI.

Rajasthan CM expresses grief over tragic bus accident

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the incident in a post on X.

“The loss of lives in the road accident in the Matoda area of Phalodi is extremely tragic and heart-rending. My condolences are with the bereaved families,” he said.

The CM further said he instructed officials to ensure all possible assistance to the victims' families.

“Instructions have been given to the district administration officials to ensure proper treatment for all the injured. I pray to the Lord to grant peace to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured.”
