(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Nov 2 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) signed on Sunday a USD 2 million grant agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help sustain the implementation of a program aimed at improving access to healthcare services for vulnerable communities in Sudan.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the presence of Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The agreement was signed by KRCS Chairman Khaled Al-Maqamis and ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
Following the signing, Al-Maqamis told KUNA that the grant reflects Kuwait's ongoing humanitarian approach and continued support for people in need, and explained that the agreement seeks to enhance the capacity of Sudan's healthcare system, and improve access to essential medical services for vulnerable populations.
He emphasized the KRCS' commitment to implementing sustainable projects that alleviate the suffering of those affected by crises, noting that the humanitarian situation in Sudan requires collective efforts to support healthcare and relief programs.
Al-Maqamis added that KRCS has intensified its humanitarian efforts toward Sudan in recent months by sending multiple relief planes carrying food supplies, tents, and essential materials to assist displaced persons and families impacted by the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
He affirmed that KRCS continuously strives to promote the positive image of Kuwait's humanitarian and relief role worldwide, stressing that support for Sudan aligns with the directives of Kuwait's political leadership and its constant dedication to humanitarian work.
The signing of this agreement comes within the framework of the high-level strategic dialogue between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ICRC, the KRCS, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). (end)
